Badajoz hosts the first Interregional Event of UNIFHY
On January 29th and 30th, the UNIFHY project brought together partners and stakeholders in Badajoz, Spain, por its first Interregional Event. Hosted by the Extremadura Energy Agency (AGENEX), the event marked the first in-person meeting within the framework of the project and focused on improving governance in the field of renewable gases.
The event provided an opportunity for partners to share experiences and explore the potential of renewable gases, with a particular focus on green hydrogen and biofuels. It also highlighted the progress made in various regions towards the adoption of these sustainable energy solutions.
Energy context in Extremadura
The meeting began with a welcome session and an overview of the energy landscape in Extremadura. Participants attended a series of presentations that focused on regional initiatives in green hydrogen and biogas development, covering topics such as the transfer of knowledge from university research to startups, research into energy storage and green hydrogen distribution, and the application of green hydrogen technologies in the transport sector.
Workshops
During the first day, the attendees engaged in two interactive workshops organized by AGENEX. The first one focused on exchanging best practices identified by partners in their regions, addressing topics such as hydrogen infrastructure, public hydrogen refueling stations, and financial instruments for developing renewable hydrogen and biogas initiatives.
The second workshop delved into the barriers, demands, and incentives observed in each region, with participants discussing ways to overcome challenges and meet regional demands through collaborative solutions.
Study visits
The second day of the event was dedicated to study visits, offering participants the chance to explore regional organizations working on green hydrogen and biogas. The first visit was to Golendus, an SME based in Lobón, where the consortium learned about their work in promoting green hydrogen in the transport sector.
The second visit took participants to the National Agri-Food Technology Centre of Extremadura (CTAEX), where they were introduced to the center’s ongoing research and strategies for generating biogas from agro-food waste.
Strengthening Regional and European Cooperation
This first face-to-face meeting of the UNIFHY project was an excellent opportunity to reinforce cooperation among project partners and regional stakeholders. The event facilitated valuable knowledge exchange and laid the groundwork for future collaboration, with a shared commitment to accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen and biogas as sustainable energy solutions across Europe.
About UNIFHY
UNIFHY – Unifying Policies to Support the Uptake of Green Hydrogen to Decarbonize Europe is a European project co-financed by the EU through the Interreg Europe program. With a total budget of nearly €1.4 million, the project brings together energy agencies from Extremadura (AGENEX), southern Sweden (EASS), and southeastern Ireland (SEEA), as well as regional authorities in Lubelskie (Poland) and Moravia-Silesia (Czech Republic), and the municipality of Aalborg (Denmark). The project aims to foster the adoption of green hydrogen and biogas technologies to reduce emissions, enhance energy security, and support job creation in rural areas.
