SIEA Stakeholder Meeting Advances Startup Support Plans
Bratislava, 14 January 2025 – The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) hosted a key stakeholder meeting as part of its ongoing involvement in the UnicornQuest project. The session brought together representatives from SIEA and the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic to review current progress and plan upcoming activities within the project framework.
The meeting was led by Mr. Vladimír Borza (SIEA), the official representative of the UnicornQuest project in Slovakia. Participants approved the agenda and focused discussions on three core areas:
-
Status of project task implementation
-
Drafting the second national Case Study
-
Updating the DM 16/2021 startup support scheme based on international knowledge exchange
Sharing Good Practices
In line with the project’s objectives, each partner is expected to deliver two examples of good practice. SIEA confirmed that it will present case studies on two innovative Slovak companies:
-
InoBat, a technology-focused battery R&D company
-
Sensoneo, a global leader in smart waste management solutions
The good practices will be uploaded to the project platform by 28 February 2025.
Contributing to the Learning Platform
SIEA has also actively participated in the project’s Learning Platform, which will be documented in the upcoming 4th Semester Report. In addition, SIEA submitted key data for an infographic and published two supportive articles on inovujme.sk, promoting the project's goals to a wider audience.
Policy Improvement and Future Unicorns
One of SIEA’s central roles in UnicornQuest is to enhance Slovakia’s startup support policies, specifically the DM 16/2021 Scheme. As part of this, the team will evaluate and potentially revise the scheme using insights from other EU countries and project partners.
Stakeholders are also encouraged to engage with the upcoming National EIC Accelerator Day 2025 organized by the National Horizon Office and Enterprise Europe Network. This event will focus on grant and investment opportunities for tech startups and aspiring unicorns. More information is available at slord.sk.
What’s Next?
SIEA outlined the following next steps:
-
Finalizing and uploading the InoBat and Sensoneo good practice examples
-
Compiling the 4th Semester Report
-
Preparing for the next project meeting in Latvia, scheduled for 6–9 May 2025
This meeting reaffirmed SIEA’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting high-potential startups in Slovakia by aligning national policy with best practices across Europe.
