On March 31st, Lubelskie Voivodeship hosted second meeting of the Local Stakeholder Group for the Tourism4SDG project. The event was attended by representatives from key regional institutions involved in the issue of steering regional tourism into SDG, namely:

  • Polesie National Park
  • The Euroregion Roztocze
  • Mayor of Tomaszów Lubelski
  • Lublin Landscape Parks Unit
  • Lublin Regional Tourist Organization
  • Land of Loess Gorges the Local Tourist Organization
  • Department of Intellectual Capital and Quality at MCSU

After an official opening by the Deputy Director of the Department of Strategy and Development in the Marshal Office of Lubelskie Voivodeship, the Project Coordinator presented latest developments and achievements in the project, including the Lublin partner meeting of previous month and a project toolbox in form of an infographic. The coordinator also presented the translated promotional video.

The stars of the LSG meeting were Good Practices from Portugal and France. Thanks to the project study visits, local stakeholders were now able to hear about a Tourism Observatory, monitoring tourism activities in Coimbra, French partner’s open information platforms of ZEPHYR and KALIO or an index to measure the wholesomeness of food or sentiment of not only the tourists, but also the locals.

Next, the project expert led workshops based on the studied GPs. Their strongest points and potential applicability level were taken under scrutiny for an hour. The ZEPHYR system was praised for combining simplicity and usefulness; Food Index for Good sparked interest for smart gain on three levels: local food businesses, clients and crucially, on the level of environment.

As a summary, in order to ensure the sustainability of tourism, the great need for measuring and deriving reliable and accessible data was emphasized. Moreover, it was stressed that such data should come under professional care of dedicated institutions in cooperation with the scientific and research community.

What followed was an encouragement to participate in this year’s partner meetings, peer-to-peer meetings and, of course, the next gathering of stakeholders. The intensifying of works on Tourism4SDG's main mission, i.e. improving the monitoring system around the subject of sustainability in tourism, was also announced.
