Working for a green logistics: 3 new GP expert approved!

Within SPOTLOG, three new Good Practices have been recently approved by the Interreg Europe experts, clearly showing all the efforts made by the city of Mechelen for a green and sustainable urban logistics.
Delivering the future: Mechelen’s cargobike subsidy program. The EU project Cyclelogistics analysed the potential of cyclelogistics showing that 32% of all goods can be delivered with a cargobike. Recognizing the advantages of cargo bikes over vans and trucks, including flexible delivery schedules, increased traffic safety, and zero emissions, the city of Mechelen launched a subsidy program to encourage businesses to adopt cargo bikes.
Connecting with stakeholders: signing a joint covenant on sustainable urban logistics. The city of Mechelen has been working on sustainable urban logistics since 2014 and this through the participation in European projects: the need grew to structure the stakeholder engagement more. Therefore, in 2019, a structural stakeholder platform was launched: ‘the zero-emission working group’. As a further step, a covenant was signed in 2020 to reach zero-emission city logistics by 2030.
Consolidating parcels: the installation of a smart parcel locker network. Parcel lockers contribute to sustainably organizing urban logistics. In order to handle them in a sustainable way, the city of Mechelen joined forces with the national courier server Bpost.
