Discussing logistics in the building industry in Lille

On 26 March, the City of Lille organized a new Regional Stakeholder Group Meeting (RSGM), focusing on logistics in the building industry: the opportunity to present the existing situation in logistics in the building industry, such as stakeholders already involved or current/future projects in the city of Lille. One of the aims was to enrich knowledge in this area.
The RSGM brought together several stakeholders to discuss logistics in the building industry. Besides networking between participants, the aim was to raise awareness on ‘Construction logistics’ in the city, to identify pilot sites to launch le Village des Matériaux (The Materials Village), a facility intended at storing second-hand construction materials produced by demolition and renovation works throughout the city, and more generally, to develop reverse flows in construction logistics (to foster circular economy in this sector).
The City of Lille circular economy and urban logistics officer started the day by defining logistics in construction and the challenges faced. He also gave an overview of the future projects of the city and the official documents used by the municipality in this area.
At the end of the morning and for almost 2 hours, participants discussed different topics during interactive sessions.

The first topic of discussion was about supplying and removing construction waste from major construction sites, especially the way waterways can be used for major construction projects. To illustrate this point, Jean-Marie Larzabal from the Ports of Lille presented an example: the Brussels Construction Consolidation Centre (BCC). The second one was a focus on Le Village des matériaux of the City of Lille. It tackled the necessary conditions for its emergence and the 10 objectives shared by the contracting authority.

Finally, the discussion focused on how to support artisans in the building logistics. Three specialists shared their insights and experiences on this matter. First, Jonathan Fermine presented the company he co-founded, Stock Nord, and the solutions they offer. Then, solutions illustrated by the Marguerite program were presented by Thibaut Debruyne from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Nicolas Guénot, Marguerite Program Coordinator - CMA Hauts de France.
