As a member of the Interreg Europe project SKYLA, Fingal County Council is setting an important example with its newly launched Future Fingal: Fingal Skills Strategy 2024–2029. Officially launched on 26 February, this strategy serves as a crucial case study for other SKYLA partners, offering valuable insights into regional workforce development, skills forecasting, and labour market adaptability.

By identifying sectoral skills needs and addressing future gaps, the Fingal Skills Strategy supports businesses—particularly SMEs—by ensuring access to a highly skilled workforce. It also promotes lifelong learning, innovation, and adaptability, with a strong focus on digital and green economy skills. Notably, the strategy incorporates best practices from European partners, reflecting SKYLA’s mission to enhance skills intelligence and labour market responsiveness across regions.

A key element of the strategy is its commitment to fostering an inclusive labour market by addressing barriers such as childcare and transport. Additionally, it highlights the role of green skills in supporting businesses as they transition to sustainability-driven economic models. The collaborative approach behind the strategy, involving employers, education providers, and policymakers, ensures that Fingal remains competitive and prepared for evolving economic demands.

For SKYLA partners, the Fingal Skills Strategy provides a leading example of how local authorities can drive skills development through evidence-based policies and cross-sector collaboration. Its implementation will be closely monitored, offering valuable lessons for European regions striving to strengthen workforce adaptability and economic resilience.
