Tartu County Explores Youth Educational Activation

On January 9th, 2024, to continue communication that began during the study visit in Latvia in October 2023, the University of Latvia brought together representatives of organizations from Tartu municipalities and the House of Hope in Liepaja (Latvia) for knowledge sharing and potential experience transfer in Estonia.

Participants of the Partner-2-Partner (P2P) meeting discussed professional knowledge and technical details crucial for organizing and implementing such initiatives as the House of Hope.

Tatjana Makovija, Head, and Kristine Soprano, Mentor at the House of Hope, shared their tips and observations, helping achieve successful results in activating young people from vulnerable groups in the educational system. The key elements include an individual approach to meeting the diverse needs of youth (e.g., emotional support) and providing small motivations to complete their studies in school. The meeting concluded with an invitation for House of Hope to visit Tartu.

The House of Hope is a platform for families, kids, and youth with the goal of helping them break the cycle of poverty, social discrimination, and lack of education. It works to assist youth and families in rebuilding their hope for a better life.

The organization provides a HOPE21 scholarship programme for disadvantaged young people (15-21 years old). Its goal is to inspire motivation in young people to finish school, build character, and become integral parts of society.
