PROXIMITIES Highlighted in Europe Day Celebrations!

Last week, the Southern Regional Assembly in Ireland marked two important milestones with a day of celebration in Waterford—Europe Day 2025 and ten years since the Assembly’s establishment.
As part of the celebrations, the Assembly showcased the Interreg Europe PROXIMITIES project, highlighting its work to promote more accessible services, liveable spaces, and sustainable connections in peripheral urban areas. The project was presented during a dedicated exhibition of EU-funded initiatives that have delivered real impact across the Southern Region.
PROXIMITIES, which the Southern Regional Assembly leads in Ireland, was featured alongside other European collaborations, reflecting the importance of transnational cooperation in addressing shared territorial challenges. The event served as an opportunity to share insights and progress from the project with regional stakeholders and elected representatives.
A key highlight of the day was the official launch of the Southern Regional Assembly’s Corporate Plan 2024–2029—a roadmap for the next five years that sets out strategic priorities including:
-
Delivery of the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES)
-
Management of ERDF Regional Programmes
-
Continued engagement in co-funded EU projects
-
Strengthening action on climate resilience and sustainability
Showcasing PROXIMITIES during the Europe Day celebrations offered a timely opportunity to highlight the project's relevance to the Assembly’s strategic goals and its role in supporting more equitable and sustainable peripheral urban development across the Southern Region and beyond.
