About the region of Catalonia and Barcelona city

Barcelona, located in northeastern Spain and bathed by the Mediterranean, is the capital of Catalonia, a dynamic and diverse region bordered by France and Andorra to the north. With more than 7.5 million inhabitants, Catalonia stands out as a global benchmark in creativity, talent and innovation, merging tradition and modernity in a unique way.

Barcelona is internationally recognized for being an epicenter of creativity, design and technological innovation. Its ability to attract talent and foster creative business initiatives makes it a key Mediterranean hub. Sectors such as design, music, gastronomy, video games and start-ups are at the heart of its economic development, standing out for its diversity and constant evolution. The city breathes creativity, with vibrant cultural expressions and a gastronomy that has elevated its dishes to the level of art.

Catalonia complements this projection as a highly diversified region, with a solid industrial fabric and a broad and diverse cultural ecosystem. The creative economy plays a central role, promoting sectors such as audiovisual, sustainable tourism and gastronomy. In addition, the region is distinguished by its commitment to technological innovation, standing out in applied research, clean technologies and co-creation platforms that promote collaboration between public and private entities and citizens.

Catalonia's strategic location makes it a node that connects Europe with global markets, promoting synergies between traditional and emerging sectors. Beyond looking to the future, the region is actively building its path, reinforcing its position as a space of inspiration and knowledge, where creativity and innovation are the pillars to lead global trends.

About Picobello

Barcelona, recognised worldwide as a hub for creativity, design and innovation, is at a crucial moment of economic and social transformation. In this context, the PICOBELLO project, framed within the Interreg Europe programme, can contribute to promoting the development of the creative economy of the city and, by extension, of the region of Catalonia.

As part of the project, a study will be developed on initiatives to promote the creative economy, which will provide a detailed diagnosis of the state of the art, providing a framework for action for public and private entities, helping to develop effective policies for the sustainable growth of the creative industries.

PICOBELLO is expected to:
1.    Contribute to the creation of a more resilient ecosystem for the creative industries in Barcelona.
2.    Strengthen the city's capacity to attract talent and promote innovation in key sectors.
3.    Contribute to the integration of the principles of sustainability, inclusion, and aesthetics in the design of public policies.
4.    Promote collaboration between companies, institutions and citizens to maximise the impact of creative initiatives.

PICOBELLO represents a unique opportunity to strengthen Barcelona's leadership in the field of the creative economy and align it with global challenges and objectives. By combining rigorous research with a practical and collaborative approach, the project seeks not only to improve regional policies, but also to position Barcelona as an international benchmark model in creativity, sustainability and design.
