Time flies when you're having fun. After an interesting and busy first learning event in Pamplona in the Navarre region in Spain at the end of May, all the partners and invited stakeholders gather again for the second study visit and learning event in the Vysočina Region in Czech Republic (6-9th of November).

"We're looking forward to welcoming all the partners and their stakeholders in our region" says Tereza Havelková, project manager for NEAR for Czech partner APSS. "We've drafted a pretty exciting agenda with study visits and even a virtual reality program regarding dementia."

Dementia

The Virtual Reality - Dementia training programme is a unique training course for social services staff, but also for people who care for a family member with dementia. The training programme offers participants a unique opportunity to enter the world of a person with dementia. Using high quality virtual reality technology, it allows them to see the world through his or her eyes.

The following days

During the next couple of days, there is an interesting study visit to Domov Jeřabina Pelhřimov. It’s a facility that has been helping people with mental, combined or other disabilities for more than 50 years! They have a fully transformed facility that has come a long way from a large institutional facility to a family-type home. They base their care on the motto ‘live in your own way’ and provide residential and other social services.

All partners and stakeholders will also receive a training regarding palliative care. Based on the Swiss model, the APSS CR has developed a system of Certification of Palliative Approach in Social Services, which focuses on setting up a palliative approach in residential social services at the level of general palliative care and on ensuring the quality of care at the end of life, with an emphasis on meeting the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of clients of social services.

These are just a few highlights of an impressive and exciting agenda during the visit.
