Nordic Nature-Based Solutions webinar
In January, NACAO project partner Central Finland organised an international webinar for the project consortium on Nordic nature-based solutions.The webinar was hosted by project manager Anna-Kaisa Tupala and the presented material was based on the Nordic Nature-based Solutions Conference held in Malmö, Sweden, in September 2024. The conference was a two-day event on climate change mitigation solutions through nature-based methods, especially applied to the Nordic environment. Case studies were presented for coastal, inland and urban areas, water bodies, mountain areas and terrestrial ecosystems. In Northern Europe, the impacts of climate change are relatively greater than in Southern Europe and solutions are therefore urgent.
Participants on webinar came especially from France and Poland, the event was promoted through NACAO Newsletter and internally among project partners and their stakeholders. The webinar consisted of four parts which were:
- General introduction to Nature-Based Solution work in Nordics
- Coastal Session
- Urban Session
- Biodiversity Session.
Nordic Council of Ministers, the organisation behind the original conference, has published many project reports, handbooks, guidelines and case-studies related to Nature-based solutions. These reports are freely available and can support climate work also wider in Europe since the methods for making change e.g. in land use habits are most likely same everywhere, only measures vary depending on local conditions, biotopes and native species.
After the presentation participants discussed together the key-messages received during the webinar. Feedback was good and given examples were interesting for partners in Central Europe. Project manager Tupala gave later in February similar webinar in Finnish for stakeholders in Central Finland region.
