On March 6th, 2025, the Baia Mare Metropolitan Area Association hosted its second workshop aimed at finding collaborative solutions to enhance the use of mobility as a service (MaaS) in the metropolitan area. The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from four city halls and the metropolitan public transport provider, S.C. URBIS S.A. The primary focus was to improve mobility services for residents across the metropolitan area, ensuring better connectivity and sustainability.

Participating Stakeholders:

The following organizations participated in the workshop:

  1. Baia Mare Municipality
  2. Baia Sprie City
  3. Tăuții Măgherăuș City
  4. Recea Commune
  5. S.C. URBIS S.A. (metropolitan public transport company)

Achieved Results:

The meeting was an important step forward in fostering cooperation among local governments and public transport providers. Here are the key outcomes from the workshop:

  • Invited Stakeholders: In addition to the main participants, representatives from the Maramureș County Council were also invited, as well as other local municipalities and transport authorities.
  • Participation: A total of 9 representatives from Baia Mare Municipality, Baia Sprie, Tăuții Măgherăuș, Recea Commune, and S.C. URBIS S.A. were present at the workshop, contributing valuable input to the discussions.
  • Agenda Highlights:
    1. Project Implementation Status: The workshop kicked off with an update on the ongoing project. Participants were reminded of the project’s key partners, and they were briefed on the progress made in the first semester of the project.
    2. Official Video Presentation: The workshop participants were shown the official video of the project, showcasing the objectives and vision of improving mobility in the region. Additionally, two MaaS applications were demonstrated: one developed by the Bihor County Council and the other by the Baia Mare Municipality, both of which were created through a joint project with the Baia Mare Metropolitan Area Association.
    3. Survey Presentations: The draft of the end-user survey was introduced, with the help of the participants filling it out during the workshop. A stakeholder survey was also presented and filled out as an example.
    4. Public Transport Contract for 2026-2030: The workshop also covered the ongoing procedure for awarding the contract for local public passenger transport services for the period of 2026-2030.

Next Steps:

The workshop's momentum will continue as several important actions are set to follow:

  • The stakeholder survey will be sent to all participants for completion by March 14th, 2025, allowing the Baia Mare Metropolitan Area Association (BMMA) to compile and process the data ahead of the upcoming meeting in Hungary at the end of the month.
  • All documents presented during the workshop, including the surveys, will be shared with the participants for further review and action.
  • Once finalized, the end-user survey will be distributed to stakeholders, who will then share it on their respective websites, reaching a wider audience and gathering more insights from the public.

This workshop marked a significant step toward improving the integration of mobility services in the Baia Mare metropolitan area. By engaging local governments, transport providers, and the community, the initiative is poised to create a more efficient, accessible, and sustainable transport system for the region.
