Poland hosted the 4th LEEWAY Interregional Meeting. The two-day event was an opportunity to talk about biogas, green hydrogen, microgrids and energy communities across Europe.

Participants attended a conference which was the opportunity to present the potentials, analyses and challenges of individual regions, and also a summary of the solutions developed to date within the project itself.

In the afternoon partners went on a study visit to Tauron's head office, where experience in supporting energy communities was presented, including the cooperation of energy communities with the external grid or energy storage. This was followed by a presentation of the microgrid pilot investment in Bytom, which is the first functioning microgrid system in Poland. TAURON has set up a microgrid to be able to guarantee, even in extreme situations, the supply of electricity, thanks to wind energy, photovoltaic panels and a stabilising energy storage system and gas generator.

The last item on the agenda was a visit to the Euro-Centrum Science and Technology Park, where laboratories and technological solutions were presented, the aim of which is to provide space for the development of companies based on the implementation of the idea of energy-efficient construction, with an emphasis on rational energy and the management and use of renewable energy sources. Thanks to the architectural and installation solutions, the building on the Park consumes 8 times less energy than a standard building, which has been recognised by the European Commission and awarded the Green Building, or award for the most energy-efficient building in Europe. The building has also become home to many companies carrying out research or innovation activities in the field of energy saving.

Finally on the last day there was an Exchange Workshop and Interregional Working Group to create a debate about green and energy transition.
