KARMA's 4th online learning event (WG2)
On February 24th, 2025, the Calabria Region, partner of the KARMA project, held the first online workshop organized by Working Group 2: “Construction waste and waste management”. This event brought together international stakeholders and project partners, reaffirming Calabria’s commitment to fostering transnational collaboration.
The session was introduced by architect Fortunato Carere, who then passed the floor to Antonio Cassalia, an engineer from the company Ecopiana. Specializing in municipal waste management and environmental remediation, Ecopiana oversees the entire waste management chain—from collection and transport to material recovery—ensuring a circular approach to waste utilization.
A key focus of the discussion was the impact of Ministerial Decree DM 127/2024, which came into force in September 2024. This regulation redefines the classification of certain inert construction waste, removing its designation as waste and mandating its recycling for reuse in new construction projects. Participants also examined best practices for topsoil production, aligning with the regulatory framework established under Regional Decree DGR 401/2024, which supports Calabria’s broader sustainable development strategy.
The event was an important moment for partners to discuss and update each other on their regional situation regarding waste management.
