The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the “MINT-Zentrum Bergstrasse Südhessen” in County Bergstrasse officially marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in educational development.

This centre will serve as an extracurricular learning facility for students from across the county, offering a competency-based and hands-on environment for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology.

As the first pilot project for circular construction in County Bergstrasse, the MINT-Zentrum Bergstrasse Südhessen is designed with a strong focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, and resource conservation. This commitment is reflected in the use of environmentally friendly building materials such as wood and recycled concrete, along with a dismountable construction that allows for material reuse at the end of the building’s life cycle.

The ceremony was attended by the Hessian Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs, the County Mayor, and numerous representatives from the education and construction sectors. Together with the company Concular, the materials and resources used in the construction were digitally documented in a building resource passport, facilitating future reuse.

A time capsule containing a current newspaper, a printout of the building resource passport, and other documents were placed in the foundation stone.

Dominik Campanella, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Concular, and Elena Petkova, Circular Consultant, presented the Building Resource Passport to the County Mayor Christian Engelhardt.

This initiative represents a significant step towards urban mining and a circular economy in County Bergstrasse, paving the way for a sustainable future in education and construction.
