Hydrogen supply chain mapping in Tuscany
In March 2025, the Agenzia per lo Sviluppo Empolese Valdelsa (ASEV) project coordinator and the Tuscany Region, collaborated to develop and distribute a questionnaire aimed at mapping the region's hydrogen supply chain. This questionnaire, which was distributed throughout Tuscany, aims to obtain a detailed overview of the current regional situation in terms of research, infrastructure, technologies, safety aspects, industries, and public sector involvement in the hydrogen field.
Mapping the hydrogen supply chain is a crucial step for the Tuscany Region, as it allows for a better understanding of the dynamics and potential of this emerging sector. Hydrogen represents one of the most promising solutions for the energy transition to renewable and sustainable sources. Through this initiative, the Region aims to identify areas of excellence, critical issues, and development opportunities to plan targeted interventions and strategic investments.
The questionnaire was released in online form, making it easily accessible to all key players in the Tuscan hydrogen supply chain. This includes not only hydrogen-producing companies, but also companies interested in using and applying technologies based on this element. Also involved are universities, research centers, and public institutions, which play a key role in the promotion and development of hydrogen-related technologies.
The main objective of this initiative is to obtain an updated and comprehensive overview of the state of the art in the hydrogen sector in Tuscany. This includes an assessment of existing infrastructure, available technologies, skills in the area, and future needs. Gathering this information will make it possible to identify critical issues and needs to invest in at the regional level, so as to foster a harmonious and sustainable development of the hydrogen supply chain.
Mapping the hydrogen supply chain is a key step in building a greener and more sustainable energy future, in line with the Tuscany Region's ecological transition and sustainable development goals.
