The Municipality of Postojna successfully hosted an engaging online workshop on 18 December as part of the Green4HEAT project. This ambitious European initiative under the Interreg programme aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable and energy efficient heating systems. By promoting cross-border cooperation, the programme is pooling knowledge, experience and resources to tackle common energy challenges.

The workshop brought together partners from across Europe to explore innovative solutions for establishing Thermal Energy Communities (TECs) and promoting sustainable heating systems. The session began with a warm welcome from the Municipality of Postojna, emphasising the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing. A presentation of territorial data highlighted key barriers such as high initial costs, regulatory challenges and limited public awareness. Despite these barriers, participants identified several drivers for success, including fiscal incentives, supportive regulations and strong stakeholder engagement.

A key focus of the workshop was the exchange of good practice. The Municipality of Postojna prepared a comprehensive Partners' MEMO, which served as the basis for discussions. From this list, partners identified effective practices, taking into account factors such as effectiveness, efficiency, equity and transferability. Examples such as Belgium's Beauvent Ostend and Hungary's National Geothermal Concept demonstrated replicable solutions, including cooperative financing models, waste heat utilisation and community-driven initiatives.

Interactive tools such as Mentimeter and Mural encouraged dynamic participation, allowing participants to evaluate best practices, discuss operational strategies, and identify potential barriers. Discussions highlighted the importance of community engagement, streamlined regulatory frameworks and scalable financial models in overcoming the challenges of TEC implementation.

The workshop concluded with a wrap-up session that summarised key takeaways and reinforced the need for tailored approaches to meet the unique needs of different territories. Participants left with actionable ideas and a renewed commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The event showcased the power of collaborating and innovating to build a greener and more resilient future for European regions.
