Latvian SME's on focus at green hydrogen
On 30 January 2025 the second Latvian multistakeholder meeting within the Green Hydra project was organised to discuss the project progress. The participants of the meeting included representatives of the relevant policy making institutions, academiaindustry associations, planning regions and the business community.
This session was largely devoted to discussions on how better to involve Latvian businesses, including SMEs, into the exchanges on green hydrogen, renewable energy projects, net zero industry, innovation. In fact, these topics mostly gather the same expert level players who are well informed on all latest hydrogen initiavtives in Latvia and Europe. The challenge is to bring these topics to potential businesses that could get involved in the hydrogen value chain but lack information on the topic. The stakeholder group decided to leverage the project dissemination event to reach this target audience, inform them about the Green Hydra project, engage them in the dialogue on green hydrogen ecosystem development in Latvia, and share insights into the latest developments in renewable energies.
The meeting was also used to learn from a representative of the Latvian Hydrogen Association about the H2Value project, which is part of the Interregional Innovation Investments Instrument (I3) and co-funded by the European Union. The project is piloting a small-scale green hydrogen production plant in the city of Jelgava and a hydrogen-powered waste collection truck in urban test sites. In the next phases of the project, a pilot will be launched in Southern Estonia. By making strategic investments in infrastructure, production, storage, and transport, H2Value seeks to foster emerging hydrogen markets in these regions and provide a blueprint for establishing green hydrogen ecosystems in other smaller regions, particularly in new EU member states.
