On Monday, October 16, the regional Stakeholder group in Sweden held a field-based meeting. This was the 3rd time the group met within project GIFT.

The previous meetings focused on establishing a functioning stakeholder group and initial discussions on how to develop a new multifunctional tree-policy and management plan for the municipality of Alingsås. At this field-based meeting hands-on discussions regarding non-clear-cutting forestry and management of old trees in an open landscape were held.

The goal is to develop a municipal tree policy and management plan that strengthens both green infrastructure as well as many other ecosystem services that trees provide. The policy should be knowledge-based and widely accepted so that the trees in the municipality can be managed long-term with a holistic perspective.

The stakeholder group consists of:

  • The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland,
  • The municipality of Alingsås,
  • The Swedish Church (Parish of Alingsås),
  •  The Swedish Forest Agency,
  • The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation,
  • The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences,
  • The federation of Swedish Farmers,
  • Ornithologists of Alingsås,
  • Alingsås hem (municipal housing company),
  • Alingsås hometown association,
  • Östad foundation
  • …and selected landowners with many valuable trees.
