Province of Drenthe, at the Hydrogen Cross Border Conference

We are pleased to report the active participation and co-organization efforts of our partner, the Province of Drenthe, at the recent Hydrogen Cross Border Conference, held on March 13, 2025, in Zuidbroek, Netherlands. This event strengthened cross-border collaboration between the Netherlands and Germany, focusing on advancing a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Together with the Province of Groningen, Drenthe form part of a Hydrogen Valley where both provinces share also a border with Germany, positioning them strategically for cross-border cooperation in hydrogen innovation.
The conference featured diverse speakers from both countries who explored the challenges and opportunities of establishing effective hydrogen value chains across borders.
Before the main event, HyNorth —a foundation dedicated to positioning the North of the Netherlands as a frontrunner in the Hydrogen Economy—hosted a session. Several speakers participated in this event, including Patrick Cnubben, who discussed plans for establishing a new Hydrogen Valley in the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland (Hydrogen Valley: HEART).
During the main conference, diverse speakers from both countries where featured. These speakers explored the challenges and opportunities of establishing effective hydrogen value chains across borders. Among them was Henk Jumelet, Deputy of the Province of Drenthe, who presented the H2DRIVE project in Nieuw-Buinen. This initiative leverages the H2Hollandia solar park to produce green hydrogen, which powers H2 trucks transporting potato starch across Groningen and Drenthe.
Cross-border collaboration like this is key to building a resilient and interconnected hydrogen infrastructure in Europe.
