Interregional Visit for Cooperation on Sustainable Mobility
On April 16–17, the Province of Drenthe (NL) warmly welcomed an administrative delegation from the Pardubice Region (CZ), led by Governor Martin Netolický. The two-day interregional visit focused on exchanging knowledge and best practices in sustainable mobility, public transport, and hydrogen technology.
Drenthe is at the forefront of hydrogen innovation, particularly in heavy transport and public transit. The region is home to pioneering companies and initiatives such as Resato Hydrogen Technology, H2 Hollandia, a public transport agency operating hydrogen buses, and municipalities using hydrogen-powered refuse trucks.
Drenthe and Pardubice share many similarities: both regions have around 500,000 residents, a regional airport, and are actively working on their energy transitions. The presence of an automotive college in Pardubice and the Resato Academy in Drenthe presents further opportunities for cooperation in education, technology, and sustainability.
During the visit, Drenthe showcased collaborative initiatives from across the Northern Netherlands, offering concrete examples of how the region is shaping the future of mobility. Together with their Czech guests, they visited:
- Groningen Airport Eelde – where discussions centered on sustainable aviation and regional ambitions for greener air travel.
- Municipality of Groningen – a hands-on look at their hydrogen-powered vehicle fleet, demonstrating real-world sustainability in action.
- Public Transport Authority Groningen Drenthe – where Qbuzz presented their strategy for delivering sustainable, customer-focused public transport.
- Resato Hydrogen Technology in Assen – a deep dive into local, cutting-edge hydrogen applications driving the energy transition forward.
The exchange was both inspiring and valuable, underscoring the critical role of cross-border collaboration in tackling Europe’s biggest challenges. Drenthe looks forward to continuing and deepening their collaboration with the Pardubice Region to build a greener, more sustainable future together.
