GH2M Featured in PLP Webinar on Hydrogen Mobility

Hydrogen is set to play a pivotal role in decarbonising mobility, particularly for vehicles that are difficult to electrify. However, a range of technical, logistical, economic, and social barriers must be addressed through coordinated policy action at all governance levels.
This webinar explored these challenges, emphasised the strategic role of regional authorities, and showcased best practices from leading regions implementing hydrogen infrastructure and promoting public acceptance.
Regions are central to advancing hydrogen adoption by facilitating stakeholder collaboration, scaling up production capacity, and positioning themselves as innovation leaders.
The session opened with a keynote from Matteo Azzimonti of Hydrogen Europe, who outlined the European framework and available support mechanisms for hydrogen-related projects. The webinar also featured good practices from three Interreg Europe projects: GH2M, Green Hydra and UNIFHY
Presentation Highlight: Solar H₂ for Heavy-Duty Vehicles in Drenthe
Sander Bijkerk from the Province of Drenthe presented the H₂ Hollandia project, which aims to produce green hydrogen from surplus solar PV electricity that cannot be fed into the grid due to congestion issues.
The green hydrogen generated will be used to fuel heavy-duty vehicles in the agricultural sector. The project exemplifies effective multi-level collaboration, bringing together energy companies, an agricultural enterprise, municipal and provincial authorities, and national government stakeholders.
The Province Drenthe aims to have its first hydrogen-powered truck operational by 2027, with a total of ten trucks planned. Any surplus hydrogen will be supplied to other local initiatives.
