Zaragoza Launches 24/7 E-Bike System Citywide
Zaragoza Expands Its Cycling Infrastructure with New 24/7 Electric Bike-Sharing System
In early 2025, Zaragoza launched a new generation of its public bike-sharing service, BiZi, significantly enhancing urban cycling infrastructure and promoting sustainable mobility in alignment with the objectives of the Interreg Europe Cycling Waterways project.
The upgraded service introduces 2,500 pedal-assist electric bicycles distributed across 276 docking stations, accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Initially launched in January with 1,080 e-bikes and 108 stations, the system reached full deployment by October, covering all city districts.
This expansion plays a key role in improving last-mile connectivity between Zaragoza's cycling paths and waterways, making it easier and more attractive for both residents and visitors to adopt cycling as a primary mode of transportation. It also supports modal shift objectives by offering a practical, efficient, and low-emission alternative to car use.
Sustainable Investment
The new BiZi system was awarded to the consortium Serveo Servicios and PBSC Urban Solutions for a 10-year period, with a total contract value of €45.9 million. The project received €6.57 million in funding from the EU’s NextGenerationEU Recovery Plan, while the remaining investment is supported by municipal funds, with €11.4 million allocated in the 2025 city budget to ensure full network deployment.
