Renewable power for the Port of Aalborg and its tenants
The Port of Aalborg introduces renewable power as an additional option to the tenants of the Port’s business park. The intention is to help companies in the business park to be even more sustainable – an initiative that could be replicated in business parks across Europe.
In the future it will be easier for companies residing at the Port of Aalborg to positively impact their CO2 emissions without significantly changing their operations. From the first of October 2024, the Port of Aalborg will exclusively purchase renewable power, meaning that companies in the business park who are connected to the Port’s grid will benefit from the new scheme. Tenants not on the Port’s grid manage their own power agreements.
“We do this because our primary role as a landlord is to create the best possible framework for the companies in our business park. This goes beyond offering buildings tailored for the specific residents’ needs, strong infrastructure, and efficient logistics solutions. It also includes creating the right conditions for companies to grow in a more sustainable direction,” says Mette Schmidt, Head of Technology and Sustainability at Port of Aalborg.
Small Additional Cost with Great Effect
For tenants in the Port of Aalborg’s business park, an additional cost of 0,002 euro per kWh will be added, but Mette Schmidt is convinced that the price is not the determining factor.
“Not only does it make a green difference in the world. It also has a positive impact on the companies’ carbon footprint and the carbon accounting which will soon be mandatory for several companies. As a result, this strengthens the competitiveness of the individual company.”
