The event focused on integrating nature-based solutions into urban planning as a way to adapt to the impacts of climate change, such as heatwaves and pluvial flooding – issues already identified in Valmiera through previous assessments.

During the workshop, participants explored nature-based solutions like green roofs, vegetation planning, pollinator-friendly structures, and rainwater infiltration systems. Field observations and collaborative group work helped generate ideas tailored to the area's needs.

The Vidzeme Planning Region team participated in the event as representatives of the CLIMATE project, sharing perspectives on regional climate resilience and contributing to discussions about sustainable adaptation in urban environments.

The event was organised by Valmiera Municipality in collaboration with the Baltic Environmental Forum and supported by the LIFE LATESTadapt project.

A similar co-creation workshop is planned for early May in Cēsis, where the CLIMATE project team from the Vidzeme Planning Region will also actively participate, continuing to gather insights and promote climate adaptation approaches across the region.
