On February 19, the Municipal Urban Environmental Services Company of Gijón (EMULSA Medioambiente) hosted its biannual Stakeholder Meeting in the Reception Hall of Gijón’s City Hall. The event provided an opportunity to update key stakeholders on the progress and latest developments of the European project "Clear Cities: Promoting Carbon-Free Urban Waste Management Policies for Sustainable, Safe, and Resilient Cities in Europe."

The meeting was chaired by Rodrigo Pintueles, Gijón’s City Councilor for the Environment, and featured contributions from Alejandro Navazas, Director General of the Environment; Ramón García Cañal, Managing Director of EMULSA; and Sergio de Lucas, Head of the RSU Service at EMULSA. De Lucas provided an in-depth update on the project’s progress, including key takeaways from last week’s study visit and meetings in Apeldoorn (Netherlands).

The event gathered representatives from a broad spectrum of organizations, including:

  • Political groups (PSOE, PP, FORO, Podemos, IU)

  • Trade unions (CCOO, UGT)

  • Business associations (FADE - Federation of Entrepreneurs)

  • Youth organizations (Conseyu de la Mocedá)

  • Neighborhood associations (Federation of Rural Area Residents' Associations)

  • Environmental entities (Cogersa, Ecologistas en Acción)

  • Public institutions (Asturias’ Regional Ministry for Ecological Transition, Gijón Impulsa – City’s Economic Promotion Department)

The Stakeholder Meeting reaffirmed Gijón’s commitment to innovative, carbon-free waste management solutions, ensuring that Clear Cities continues to drive forward sustainability and resilience across European urban areas.
