Skive gained new knowledge on study tour to Chemelot

Skive delegation visited the Netherlands to gain new insights into the circular economy. Now, the work continues to establish a circular hub in the Skive region.
As part of the EU project CHEERS4EU, Skive Municipality’s Growth Partnership went on a study tour to Chemelot Circular Hub in the Netherlands. The purpose was to provide the Danish delegation with concrete insights into how the circular economy can be put into practice and how strong partnerships can serve as a driving force for local development and job creation.
Skive Learning from Chemelot
During an intensive study tour, the delegation visited Chemelot Circular Hub, a strong and ambitious multiple-helix alliance aiming to become one of Europe’s leading regional hubs for circularity. Here, the Danish participants gained insight into how a well-functioning circular hub can be built and how Chemelot collaborates across industries, research institutions, education partners and public authorities to drive local growth. Trust and engagement among businesses and organizations are key factors in successfully working together on the green transition.
The delegation also gained an understanding of how research and innovation play a central role in the circular economy and were reaffirmed in the importance of close cooperation between local businesses and educational institutions. This approach can help businesses secure specialized competencies for the future, which is also a key focus in Skive.
Collaboration is the Key to Success
The right organizational setup is crucial for establishing a successful circular hub. The Skive delegation, therefore, gained insights into how Chemelot Circular Hub has approached this task and how a well-structured setup can create new business opportunities and strengthen the local economy.
Alexander Lauring Knudsen, Team Leader at Energibyen Skive in Skive Municipality, states:
– There is no doubt that the visit to Chemelot provided us with knowledge and some of the answers we needed in our work to establish a circular hub in Skive. Many thanks for an inspiring tour and for sharing your experiences from both local and regional government perspectives as well as private and educational viewpoints.
He adds:
– CHEERS4EU gives us a unique opportunity to draw on our partners’ experiences and learn from each other. The collaboration demonstrates how important it is to work across borders to create strong, sustainable solutions throughout Europe. In Skive, we look forward to continued collaboration and the circular development of the Skive region.
Skive Municipality and the other participants from Business Skive, GreenLab, the Skive Education Council, and the Skive Climate Fund returned home with new knowledge that will strengthen their ongoing work and contribute to a stronger collaboration and a shared vision. This is key to building a robust circular economy and fostering local development.
The tour was planned in collaboration between Skive Municipality and the Province of Limburg, which is the lead partner of CHEERS4EU and was responsible for organizing the two-day program and visit to the Netherlands.
