CARES Study Visit in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (France)

Gérontopôle Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region have welcomed the CARES European partners and their local stakeholders to Bordeaux on 22 and 23 November, as part of the CARES Interreg Europe project. These two days were packed with discussions and the sharing of good practices in eHealth for older adults in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The event gathered 55 participants, including more than 30 stakeholders from Nouvelle-Aquitaine and 22 European partners.

CARES project activities include the identification of eHealth good practices and the organisation of study visits to each of the partner regions. Following a visit to Toruń (Poland) in June, the European consortium came to Bordeaux (France) to learn about eHealth good practices for older adults in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and to find out about the regional challenges.

Wednesday 22 November 2023: a regional event to share good practices from Nouvelle-Aquitaine and other European regions

The day's programme, prepared by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine CARES local stakeholder group, included:

  • An opening speech by Françoise Jeanson, Vice-President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region in charge of health and the Silver economy, linking the policy instrument targeted by the project (the Health Roadmap 2023-2028 of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region) with the CARES project. A presentation of Gérontopôle Nouvelle-Aquitaine was given by its Director Murielle Bouin.
  • An introduction to the French healthcare system and a background on eHealth for older adults in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, presented by the Regional Health Agency.
  • A round-table discussion on the theme of "eHealth and older adults: challenges and outlook in Nouvelle-Aquitaine". The objective of the round-table was to provide an overview of eHealth for the older adults in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine (NA) region, presenting the challenges and opportunities from the perspective of different health professionals involved in the health pathway of older adults: the Bordeaux University Hospital, the Union of private practitioners of NA, the Union of private nurses of NA, the Union of pharmacists of NA, the Union of physiotherapists of NA.

5 good practices from European partners have been presented:

  • Future proofing health care services through telecareCity of Zagreb (Croatia)
  • REHAB-DK (digital solution for home rehabilitation) – Region of Southern Denmark (Denmark)
  • Telemonitoring focused on multi-chronic patients: provisioning of integrated careAragón Healthcare Service (SALUD) (Spain)
  • BEATA – Need adjusted care, supervision and working methods The R&D centre of the municipality of Linköping (Sweden)
  • Kuyavian-Pomeranian Telecare (fall detectors, smartwatches) – Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship (Poland)

 

5 good practices from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region have been presented:

  • Paaco-Globule (Regional Health Agency, ESEA (“eHealth in Action”: the institutional e-health operator attached to Regional Health Agency) and Giron’DAC (Support for the coordination of health pathways in the Gironde department)): the digital coordination tool used by health professionals in Nouvelle-Aquitaine with information sharing and cross-sectoral coordination of care pathways to encourage secured home care
  • Bienveillance et Prévention @DOM (Association Soins et Santé – Limoges, IRIS Assistance and Telegrafik): Connected tools to secure the home care of older adults (home automation, advanced remote assistance, artificial intelligence)
  • Tel-e-dent (Hospital of Guéret): Tele-expertise with the Hospital of Guéret to provide access to dental care for nursing home residents in rural areas
  • Telemonitoring in cardiology (Bordeaux University Hospital): Remote heart monitoring of patients via their pacemaker or defibrillator and use of connected tools at home
  • Telemedecine in nursing homes (Regional Health Agency and ESEA): Telemedicine deployment programme for nursing homes in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Thursday 23 November 2023: Site visit to the Local Resource Centre of the nursing home ”Les Jardins de l'Ombrière” to learn from their initiative of teleconsultation at home for older adults

The day's programme included:

  • A presentation of the practice by the nurse coordinator of the Local Resource Centre of the nursing home “Les Jardins de l'Ombrière” (in Eysines), a geriatrician at the Bordeaux University Hospital, a nurse with expertise in wound healing and an eHealth project manager at ESEA.
  • The opportunity to discover the good practice in the field, meet the stakeholders involved and exchange with them. The CARES partners were also able to attend a live test demonstration of teleconsultation with the Bordeaux University Hospital.
