On 20 June 2023, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship hosted the International Launch Conference of the CARES Project - an innovative project that aims to develop telecare and telemedicine services.
Why have the project partners chosen to tackle such an important topic? In Europe, there is a growing number of older people who will need constant care and faster access to medical diagnosis. This is particularly a problem for people who are alone, dependent and living in peripheral areas. It is beyond doubt that the ageing of the European population is a serious challenge for the coming decades. Therefore, the systematically increasing number of senior citizens in the age structure of society already calls for bold decisions and new solutions.

The Conference gathered project partners from 8 European countries (France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain and Croatia), as well as local stakeholders and experts from the medical environment, social support units and associations, academic and scientific communities, social policy support units and NGOs.
The conference was a venue to present the CARES project to a wider audience, as well as to actively discuss telecare and telemedicine, allowing for an exchange of views and experiences between participants.
The CARES project is a place for the exchange of knowledge, but also an arena for the development of innovative solutions in the field of telecare and telemedicine. The cooperation and experience of the international partners opens up new perspectives for the future of healthcare.

Among the highlights of the day was a study visit by CARES project partners to the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Centre for Digital Competence, where the project partners met with the Kujawsko-Pomorska Telecare project coordinator, a representative of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Centre for Digital Competence and a team of paramedics who provide 24-hour support to the seniors covered by the project. The study visit allowed the partners to gain direct experience of how the centre operates (during the visit, an alert was received from a senior in need of assistance) and to engage in substantive discussions. It was an opportunity to ask detailed questions about various aspects of the project, from the initial planning phase to the selection of a service provider and the development of comprehensive services. This enabled the partners to better understand the complexity of the project.
