On Monday 8th March the WaVE partners met online for the 3rd project IKES.

IKES stands for Interregional Knowledge Exchange Sessions, concrete opportunities to exchange good practices, case studies and viewpoints. IKES were initially to be hosted at the project sites: Aarhus, Ravenna and Alicante. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 health emergency prevented us from meeting physically, but not to learn from others.

During the first part of the meeting, partners had the opportunity to listen to the interventions of 3 important speakers:

Planning for and with port (city) heritage” by Prof. Carola Hein, Professor of History of Architecture and Urban Planning - Department of Architecture at TU Delft

Aarhus South Harbour – User Involvement, Cultural Heritage and Planning Processes in the Transformation of a former, City-based Industrial Area into a CBD area” by Michael Tolstrup, Senior Adviser and Project Manager at the Aarhus Municipality

Redevelopment of the Liverpool waterfront and the inclusion on the Liverpool WHS on the UNESCO danger list” by John Pendlebury, Professor of Urban Conservation at Newcastle University.

The second part of the meeting was entirely dedicated to Action Plans.

After reading the second draft of the Action Plans, the Delft University of Technology gave feedback and comments to the partners in order to focus and better design the process of developing actions that will enhance water-related heritage and raise awareness of this topic in other European cities and regions.

During the last part of the meeting, partners split into two groups and, supported by Delft, were invited to answer and discuss about two strategic questions:

  1. How your proposed actions relate to policies and strategies at the local, regional, national, above-national levels?
  2. How do you envisage the process of engagement of stakeholders in the implementation of the actions (who is engaged, for which action, when, how)?

Next steps:
Big news for the WaVE project will soon be revealed!
In the meantime, partners will continue to involve stakeholders in the construction of their Action Plans through the organisation of LSG meetings (Local Stakeholder Group).
