Review of the year 2019 for the STAR Cities project
With a few weeks into 2020 and also a new decade, we look back at the biggest moments of 2019 and the events coming up in 2020 for STAR Cities.
Launched in 2018, the INTERREG Europe project made good progress in the partnership leading to different milestones and encounters paving the way for additional exchanges of good practices.
In addition to study visits to discover local good practices introduced by the Lazio Region and Rome, the partners gathered to vote for a thematic programme defining the project and its upcoming seminars.
Back in septembre 2019, Kaunas 2022, European Capital of Culture, welcomed the other partners to the first thematic seminar of STAR Cities.
Lithuanian good practices on the theme of “Locals & Communities” and on river tourism were brought to light during study visits in the Kaunas district.
Local representatives have met several times in 2019 to present the project and to discuss different matters such as learning cases and good practices in the frame of the project.
What awaits STAR Cities in 2020
- A new partner will join the network of STAR Cities : the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region in Slovenia ;
- STAR Cities and its partners will attend the event “Better Places to Live Better Places to Visit" hosted in Novi Sad, Serbia (European Capital of Culture 2021) from 24-26 June 2020. The STAR Cities approach will be presented as well as the opportunity offered by river tourism to fight against overtourism by attracting tourists outside city centers.
- Three Interregional learning sessions are planned in 2020.
At the same time, local stakeholders group meetings (one meeting per partner per semester) will help to gather contributions on learning program and good practices.
