The city of Florence in Italy hosted the kick-off meeting of the Interreg Europe SMART WASTE project. On 5 September 2019, Federica Fratoni, the Tuscany Regional Minister for the Environment, welcomed representatives from the six project partners as well as invited experts. Together, they discussed innovation in waste management, one of the project’s key themes, in particular, applied to the local Tuscan context. They also exchanged on citizens and stakeholders engagement.

This was the occasion for the project partners to also get to know each other. Coming from Italy, Denmark, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Netherlands, and Belgium (for ACR+ the advisory partner of the project), they have adopted various approaches and experienced different situations when it comes to linking innovation and waste management, in particular, reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering waste.

During that day, partners laid the basis of the different activities that will be implemented to facilitate the exchange of experiences and the interregional learning at work in all Interreg Europe projects.
