The city of Florence, Italy, hosted the first official event of the Interreg Europe SMART WASTE project since its beginning,in August 2019: the kick-off meeting. On 5 September, Federica Fratoni, the Tuscany Regional Minister for the Environment, welcomed representatives from the six project partners and some invited experts. Together, they discussed innovation in waste management, one of the project’s key themes - in particular, applied to the local Tuscan context - and citizens and stakeholders engagement.
This was the occasion for the project partners to also get to know each other. Coming from different countries – namely Italy, Denmark, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Netherlands, and Belgium (for ACR+ the advisory partner of the project) – they have adopted various approaches and experienced different situations when it comes to linking innovation and waste management, in particular reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering waste.
During that day, partners laid the basis of the different activities that will be implemented to facilitate the exchange of experiences and the interregional learning at work in all Interreg Europe projects.
More information and the draft agenda are available on the event page.
