On 09th of June 2021, South Muntenia Regional Development Agency (SMRDA) in Romania will host an Interregional Workshop and virtual study visits as part of Interreg Europe project – SHREC SHifting towards Renewable Energy for Transition to Low Carbon Energy.

The Workshop will be organized aiming to enhance the partners’ and stakeholders' knowledge on the specific challenges for global clean renewable energy trends and on Romanian national policies in the field of renewable energy sources, research projects on renewable energy and climate change mitigation. Project partners along with representatives from regional authorities, innovation centers, academia, industry and other stakeholders will be present.

The event will be hosted on 09th of June 2021, 9:30 – 15:00 CET, online via ZOOM.

« Financial instruments using ERDF

South Muntenia RDA is IB for ROP 2014 -2020 through which it provides financing to local and central public authorities. The Priority Axis 3 - Support the transition to a low carbon economy - represents the main funding scheme at regional level which aims to increase energy efficiency in residential buildings, public buildings and public lighting systems, especially those with high energy consumption. The investment priorities and supported measures addressed to public authorities and the results achieved will be presented. Discussions will focus on lessons learned and ways to improve the policy instrument as a result of exchange of best practice.

« Research projects and their results translated in the market

Research and innovation projects in the renewable energy sector in Romania has known a great development. Many research projects have been awarded, however, even though potential is high, the sector is not yet developed at its full potential. Within this session, close attention will be paid to the cooperation between R&D and market demand and the experience of other more developed countries and regions in this area. What is the key to success on further developing the renewable energy sector, the support provided by the government or private investors?

« Near Zero Energy Buildings

Nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB) have very high energy performance. The low amount of energy that these buildings require comes mostly from renewable sources, including sources produced on-site or nearby. Most buildings across Romania have not yet been modernized to improve their energy efficiency and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the use of buildings, therefore a considerable potential for energy saving exists. Discussions will focus on the potential, interest and awareness on this topic of general public, R&D sector and local authorities. Also, is the market ready to implement this concept and are there enough experts in this sector?

  • 14:30 – 15:00 Plenary restitution, Q&A
