The project addresses increasing role of startup infrastructure (e.g. incubators, accelerators, business and technology centers.) in supporting of SMEs. It is proven that business incubators can significantly improve the survival and growth prospects of small firms at an early stage of development. However, the quality of infrastructure supporting SMEs between different regions of Europe varies and there is a great potential for its development thanks to recommendations, which could be gained through unified benchmarking methodology. Benchmarking provides the guidance on best practice against which the performance of infrastructure can be judged. Therefore, the main goal of the project is to boost competitiveness of small firms, particularly startups, through development of business incubators and business accelerators comprehensive benchmark methodology and its application in various European regions.
