Virtual Interregional Learning Session of STAR Cities

The 5th Interregional Learning Session of STAR Cities will be hosted online by the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RRA LUR) from April 20 to 22 and May 5 and 6, 2021.
The event will focus on Environment and Sustainability through virtual study visits to discover good practices and workshops.

9:00-10:35AM : Sustainable tourism development in strategic planning

Ljubljana : European Green Capital 2016	City of Ljubljana	Annual initiative of the European Commission recognizing and rewarding local efforts to improve the environment, economy and quality of life in cities.
Green scheme of Slovenian tourism	Institute Factory of Sustainable Tourism Goodplace	A national tool for the development of sustainable tourism in destinations and tourism businesses operating under the brand SLOVENIA GREEN.
Hamburg Tourism's Sustainable Tourism Strategy and Marketing	Hamburg Tourism Board	A criteria for sustainable touristic products and compiled sustainable offer.
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Elbe River Landscape	Biosphere reserve administrations	Germany’s largest inland biosphere reserve recognized by the UNESCO in 1997 and comprising about 282,250 hectares. It represents one of the last remaining, near-natural river landscapes in Central Europe.

Liinsand Hybrid Ferry	Hanseatic City of Stade Marketing & Tourism	Environmentally friendly hybrid catamaran operating with low emissions on the Elbe and connecting Stade and Hamburg.
Au fil de l’eau boat trips and shuttle services	Au fil de l’eau	Employment of poor and long-term unemployed people from Val-de-Marne to help them in their social and economic integration. They take care of riverbanks maintenance works, organise boat cruises and other activities to promote environmental awareness along Marne river.

Wednesday, April 21 - Good practices presentations

9:00-10:35AM : Tourism in the role of river environment and heritage protection

Thematic paths in Ljubljansko barje Nature Park	Ljubljansko barje Nature Park	Trails equipped with information boards and interactive tools interpreting flora, fauna and geographical characteristics of the Ljubljansko barje. Global aim of establishing and recognizing the park as a sustainable tourist destination.
Ljubljanica River Exhibition	Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Municipality of Vrhnika	The interactive exhibition is dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of the Ljubljanica River basin. It is designed to encourage the public to actively participate in strengthening the common responsibility for heritage.
Haute Ile Nature Park – Natura 2000 site	Seine-Saint-Denis Department Council	A 65-hectare park inspired by the natural landscapes of the alluvial zones close to the Marne river. Also an area of great biodiversity. Guided tours and other animations are organised during spring and summer.
UPYNES – TEKA	Initiative "UPYNĖS", partner of Kaunas 2022	Virtual tool of the TẽKA initiative, which collects an archive of the memory of rivers, streams, and banks of the Kaunas region, and records the ecological situation of rivers and cultural signs.

10:45AM-12PM : Events to celebrate the river

Big Jump – European Rivers Swimming Day	European River Network – Saint-Maur-des-Fossés municipality as a participant	Open source event aiming at building support for efforts to protect and restore European freshwater systems and encourage people to join and save them. Since 2002, around 200,000 people have taken place during over 2000 events in 34 countries. At local level, a very powerful event to mobilise policy makers and inhabitants.
Tiberis Beach	City of Rome	An equipped area built on the banks of the Tiber, which has been depolluted and given back to citizens as a space equipped for river tourism.
Let's celebrate the river	Kaunas 2022	Community festival along the rivers in Kaunas and its District. The initiative started in 2020 and gathered community members, artists, etc. Its goal is to develop the dialogue related to the sustainable river tourism forms and activities.
Organisation of big walks as events to discover the territory	Val-de-Marne Tourism Board	Annual cultural walks punctuated by visits and animations proposed by local partners to discover the territory to hundreds of participants.
