Ten new centres of excellence were selected for funding from Horizon 2020, for a total financing of €140 million. The support is targeted at measures promoting scientific excellence in nine countries, which are currently under-performing in research and innovation. Each supported project will receive up to €15 million from the so-called Teaming Instrument run under Horizon 2020. The Instrument facilitates institution building in eligible countries, in close cooperation with Europe's leading scientific and innovation powerhouses.
