Usage of the hybrid photovoltaic system with accumulation in batteries to support the energy consumption of the warehouse.
The subject of the project is the construction of the cogeneration unit using solar power together with the energy storage batteries to enable to operate the warehouse.

The 296 kWp photovoltaic power plant has two parts - on the facade and on the flat roof. Part of the façade will be complemented by the production of electricity by cogeneration units, especially in the winter. “All black” panels are used for the facade. In addition to the nickname for the New Zealand rugby team, it is also a designation of a photovoltaic panel, which has a maximum of visible parts in black colour. Under optimal conditions, the power of 1 panel is 320 Wp. The photovoltaic power on the facade is 77 kWp. The winter sun is only about 20° above the horizon, and therefore the installation of photovoltaics on the facade is suitable with regard to the need for year-round electricity production.

Total project costs: 600 000 EUR (including cogeneration unit)

Investments costs per installed kW: 2 000 EUR/kW
Payback period for the solar power is between 7-8 years.
The higher costs per kW is mainly due to the quality of the pannels na the complexity of the system.

Resources needed

Combination of the private financial sources and EU subsidies with total project costs: 600 000 EUR.

Evidence of success

The combination of 947 photovoltaic panels on the roof and shell of the building with a high-capacity battery and cogeneration units ensures almost 100% electricity consumption of the whole building. Along with this, it also ensures the charging of forklifts and electric vehicles.

In addition, the cogeneration unit is independent of the distribution system for several days in direct sunlight.

Potential for learning or transfer

At full light for, the company is independent of the distribution system for several days. The photovoltaic power plant produces so much electricity at full capacity that it could supply 100 single-family homes. The company has an ingeniously sophisticated system that also manages excess energy.

The project has a clear contribution to the overall reduction of emissions and greenhouse gases. The zero-emission PV complex, together with the investment in condensation cogeneration units that provide ecological production of electricity and heat for storage areas, clearly reduces the carbon footprint of the logistics centre to a minimum.

The environmental benefit is also the fact that the project was implemented without the construction of new land and without further construction activities.

MALFINI has so far used only 25% of the available roof area, so there is a huge potential for extend the use of RES in the future.
