NEFERTITI project: networking European farms for innovation uptake through demonstration. 10 thematic networks involving 45 regional clusters: farmers & actors.
Based on key concerns of the farming communities regarding innovation uptake in 17 countries throughout the EU three main agricultural sectors: animal production, arable farming and horticultural production, addressing 10 themes covering a balanced range of topics, were chosen for interactive networking between 45 regional clusters (hubs) comprising demo-farmers and various stakeholders in the agro-food innovation ecosystem (advisors, NGOs, industry, education, researchers and policy makers).
A web based platform unlocks the experience, actors, demo details and the related content for widespread sharing, enhanced by the dedicated production of relevant material (including high-quality videos) in each partner’s language. Annual demonstration campaigns (2019-2020-2021) are to be organised and a monitoring and learning program supports the systematic extraction of lessons learnt, lessons to be shared with wide audiences including AKIS (Agriculture Knowledge and Innovation Systems) actors and public authorities. Additionally, improving the policy dialogue and networking the regional European Funds managing authorities to ensure the network sustainability.
Stakeholders: farmers, agri-food advisors, NGOs, agri-food industry, education and researchers sectors, and policy makers.

Resources needed

7 M€ for the entire network (selected under Horizon 2020, Societal Challenge 2, RUR 12-2017 call)

Evidence of success

45 regional clusters (hubs) comprising demo-farmers and various stakeholders in the agro-food innovation ecosystem from 17 countries are actively involved in the networking using the platform. Relevant materials (including high-quality videos) in each partner’s language are uploaded and shared online. Established interactive thematic networks at regional, national & EU levels by sectors and themes (and with the EIP related projects/landscape) to boost knowledge exchanges and cross fertilisation.

Potential for learning or transfer

NEFFERTITI Network is open for participation of a wide range of actors in the agro-food innovation ecosystem from any country in the EU. Use of demo- and network activities for communicating and disseminating the practical oriented outcomes could be adapted at local level to meet innovation needs.
Best practices sharing for demo-farms could have a good knowledge spreading potential among farmers.
