VIMASOL aims at improving the way energy resources are used and to promote entrepreneurship in the sector and in rural areas by promoting employability.
Vimasol was created in 2003 and it aims at improving the way energy resources are used.
Vimasol´s mission is to change the energy perception, providing the most appropriate solutions in an ecological framework.
Vimasol works to transform natural resources into profitable energy minimizing the negative impact.
Vimasol takes into consideration:

• Search for more demanding and customized comfort solutions
• Search for the best relation price-quality
• Growing environmental awareness

One of the objectives of VIMASOL is also to promote employability in rural areas. Due to that and from 2009 to 2010, Vimasol's production growth around 100%. Almost the totality of the production was absorbed by the Portuguese market and made it possible to avoid importing 2 million liters of fossil fuels.
VIMASOL PELLET production was considered the 2nd best in the Country!
VIMASOL is an example of innovativion capacity and use of resources in rural areas.

Evidence of success

Located in a green area, the production unit uses exclusively material from pine wood, to produce pellets with premium quality.
From 2009 to 2010, Vimasol's production growth around 100%, proving the increasing interest of consumers in this type of product.
Almost the totality of the production was absorbed by the Portuguese market and made it possible to avoid importing 2 million liters of fossil fuels.
VIMASOL PELLET production was considered the 2nd best in the Country!

Difficulties encountered

The cost of the project (1.5 M€) could be the major difficulty for some companies

Potential for learning or transfer

The transfer of this practice is especially interesting in rural areas since endogenous resources can stimulate the creation of small businesses and therefore stimulate the economic environment in low density areas.
The project is easily transferable in any geography, as long as forest and agricultural residues are available
