ASR focuses on the construction of noise barriers with new photovoltaic panels and the implementation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Astral SpA wants to develop on his roads a sustainable mobility in respect of energy saving and the reduction of emissions, to protect the environment. So ASR is the construction of noise barriers
with new photovoltaic panels and the implementation of charging
infrastructure for electric vehicles. The energy produced by
photovoltaic panels, integrated into noise barriers, will be used to supply about 20 charging stations that will be installed in regional roads.
In few words, the road produces the useful energy for electric cars circulation. The main stakeholders are the manufacturers of photovoltaic panel, of noise barriers, the energy supplier, Astral, while the beneficiaries are the people for the reduction of noise, pollution etc. The good practice is related to:
- Recharging infrastructures (and related business models)
- Research and Innovation
- Awareness raising

Resources needed

The estimated cost is of € 850k for 20 fast recharging infrastructure while the estimated cost for 10 noise barriers is € 1650k. So the total amount of the project is €2500k.

Evidence of success

ASR could be the solution to finance new infrastructure or to pay for maintenance because the road produces the useful cash flow. In particular, we can suppose a fee for each KWH produced from photovoltaic panel or a fee for each meter of barrier. The success of this project depend on the productivity of new experimental photovoltaic panel (vertical panel without inclination) involved in the project in a real situation.

Difficulties encountered

The mayor difficulties are two:
- to find the parking slot for charging infrastructure. We registered a negative response from petrol station, supermarkets and shopping center.
- To develop innovative project that asks the private collaboration inside the Italian law framework

Potential for learning or transfer

Considering a large scale application of ASR we could reduce pollution, increase the energy production for electric car from renewable sources, reduce car noise, provide a financial inflow for local government. In few words we can replicate the framework in different regions and countries.
