Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission is a marketing tool of the territory and its resources (natural, logistic, professional, commercial, economic, tourist)
Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission (hereinafter FVGFC) is a marketing tool of the territory and its resources (natural, logistic, professional, commercial, economic, tourist) set-up and used by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia starting from the year 2000, investing then the public service FVGFC for the specific own competences with the Regional Law 6 November 2006 n. 21. FVGFC operates primarily through a targeted promotion of the regional territory as a set for film and television productions, underlining its landscape beauty, production convenience and related logistical and occupational facilities. The recipients of this promotion are Audiovisual Production Companies and directors on a national and international scale. Other beneficiaries of this initiative are local (background) actors and workers and subjects involved in satellite activities, related and induced services. The tools through which this promotion takes place are: Film Fund, Location Guide, Production Guide.

Resources needed

3 people; operating costs for 2018 euros 290.00.00 (personnel, office management, activities).
The funding of the Film Fund doubled in the period 2014-2018 from 0.7 to 1.4 million €.

Evidence of success

Direct and induced economic effects (production guest and crew total expenditures); in 2014-2016 the ratio between the FVGFC investment (by the Film Fund) and spending in the region was around 1 to 7 while the ratio concerning total spin-off was 1 to 12. Promotional and tourism effects (region visibility; film tourism). Employment effects (local staff; 3.607 in 2016). Training effects (creation or refinement of local skills). Technological effects (creation or refinement of infrastructures).

Difficulties encountered

Being an institution within a public administration can cause sometimes a discussion about the autonomous use of public funds. The protection of the territory's resources (human resources, location) has become essential in the choice of productions, themes and international activities.

Potential for learning or transfer

The FVGFC pursues a specific objective of common interest for the program area: the promotion of the territory, culture and local traditions, also in terms of the so-called "film tourism", or the influx of visitors to certain places, all attention of the large international audience after their use as film locations and fiction.
