On 2-3 December 2020, the Policy Learning Platform is organising an online Peer Review to be hosted by the Municipality of Burgas (Bulgaria) on the topic of waste prevention and separate waste collection in a circular economy.
The Municipality has developed a waste management strategy, in line with the European Green Deal and much of the necessary waste management infrastructure is already in place. However, modern waste management and circular economy are relatively new features for the city and region. During the Peer Review, the Burgas authorities are thus looking to team up with peers from Spain, Austria, Malta and Portugal to understand how policies, incentives and enforcement measures can improve waste prevention and separate collection and which kind of campaigns, awareness-raising and education programmes are needed to achieve better participation rates in separate collection schemes.
This event is by invitation only. Following the Peer Review, a report and recommendations will be prepared and, provided the agreement of the host, made available for other interested policy makers.
