On 2 and 3 March 2022, The Policy Learning Platform is organising an online peer review for the benefit of the Upper Silesia Region (Poland). The peer review will focus on the co-operation of science and business in the Silesian Voivodeship.

What will it be about?

Upper Silesia is the most urbanised and industrialised region of Poland, and acts as a key player of the Polish economy with great regional economic potential.

In the 21st century, Upper Silesia began transforming from heavy industries to new technologies. Subsequently, many new economic activities emerged. However, due to the reform and a lack of coherent long-term strategy, co-operation between science and business has remained a challenge for the region.

Under moderation of our Thematic Experts on the topic of research and innovation Arnault Morisson and Marc Pattinson, this peer review will explore opportunities to support co-operation between universities and industry, and look at other fruitful examples from across Europe.

To better envision progress and possible policy changes, the peer review will focus on:

  • Soft policy tools to support the commercialisation of research results
  • Initiatives and policies for intermediaries to support the commercialisation of research results

Furthermore, the host is looking forward to learning more about organisations acting as intermediaries in commercialisation and the defining of principles in their participation from external expertise and recommendations.

The peer review is an invitation only event. However, key learnings of the peer review will be published afterwards in a follow-up article on the Interreg Europe website.
