Vas County Government Office

Vas County, located at Hungary’s western border with Austria and Slovenia, is a region rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage, and economic diversity. Known for its rolling hills, rivers, and historical landmarks, the county is also a hub for agriculture, manufacturing, and services.

At the heart of regional development efforts is the Vas County Government, supported by its economic arm, the Vas County Government Office (VVÖH). As the largest regional project developer in the area, VVÖH plays a leading role in implementing both domestic and international projects, having successfully delivered over 150 initiatives co-funded by the European Union.

VVÖH acts as a lead partner, project partner, or project management body in a wide range of transnational and cross-border collaborations. As the regional managing authority for the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme Plus (TOP_Plusz), the organisation is deeply involved in strategic planning, project development, and policy implementation.

Vas County Role in Digital Rural

Vas County is also a key player in the Digital Rural Project, which aims to promote the Smart Digital Village concept across Europe. While current regional policies and the TOP_Plusz Programme include some investment priorities aligned with this vision, several action areas remain under-addressed.

Through a bottom-up assessment process, the county aims to identify these gaps and revise existing strategies to better support digital literacy, connectivity, and awareness in rural communities. The project will also inform the launch of new funding calls, drawing on best practices and lessons learned from partner regions.

By aligning policy with innovation and community needs, Vas County continues to strengthen its role as a forward-thinking region committed to sustainable development and digital inclusion.
