EUREKA (European URban Exchanging Knowledge on climAte neutrality) is a project aiming at improving the implementation of local and regional climate policies, including those related to Structural Funds.

In recent years, the Municipality of Prato has defined a clear vision for the city's future by adopting important planning tools, such as the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP), the Sustainable Mobility Plan, the Smart City Plan, the Prato 2050 Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP).

Thanks to this commitment, the European Commission selected Prato as one of 100 European cities participating in the mission to become climate neutral by 2030. Its Climate City Contract is a concrete opportunity to build sustainable development pathways and support the community in achieving climate neutrality.

Thanks to EUREKA project, local authorities can share knowledge and expertise in the implementation of climate neutrality strategies and action plans, focusing on four cross-cutting themes of Climate City Contracts:

  • Transition governance for more transparent, inclusive, responsive and effective decision-making.
  • Cross-sectoral approaches to ensure consistency of objectives and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • The combination of multiple funding sources related to the multidimensionality of urban issues.
  • The construction of consistent and effective monitoring frameworks to reliably measure effects and impacts of climate neutrality plans.

EUREKA is part of the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 territorial cooperation programme. It is funded with 2,400,000.00 EUR (of which ERDF contribution of 1,920,000.00 EUR and contributions from the national revolving fund of 480,000.00 EUR).

The partnership is composed of: Municipality of Prato - lead partner; Energy Cities (France) - advisory partner; Attica Regional Development Fund (Greece); City of Pilsen (Czech Republic); The Valencia Foundation for Climate and Energy (Spain); City of Mechelen (Belgium); Mazovia Region (Poland); City of Dublin (Ireland); City of Rovaniemi (Finland); Rivne Executive Committee (Ukraine); City of Stockholm (Sweden).
