From July to December 2025, Denmark holds the EU Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Danish Presidency 2025 is already the eighth time Denmark is steering the EU. Their overarching goal is to steer the EU towards a strong Europe in a changing world.

The Danish Presidency's priorities set out for 2025 are twofold:

  • A secure Europe, and
  • A more competitive and green Europe

You can find out more about the Danish priorities at the Presidency's website.

You can find out how Danish institutions already cooperate with others in Interreg Europe either in projects or in the Policy Learning Platform activities to make Europe more competitive, greener and more secure.

Denmark cooperates

Denmark is one of the smaller member state of the EU with close to 6 million inhabitants.

It is a country with a long experience in cooperation. It joined the European Union already in 1973. It was one of the initial Partner States in Interreg Europe's predecessor interregional cooperation programme, INTERREG IIIC, running from 2000 to 2006.

The country's institutions are always involved in the interregional cooperation projects and policy learning. This programming period, Denmark has:

  • 38 project partners sharing their experience and transferring inspiring ideas from other corners of Europe to their regions in Denmark
  • 36 of the 262 approved Interreg Europe projects have Danish partner organisations
  • project has a Danish lead partner

The cooperation interests of Danish project partners to some extent reflect the priority topics of the Danish Presidency.

    Policy learning with Danish partners

Danish organisations take an active part in the policy-learning activities organised by Interreg Europe's Policy Learning Platform. They benefit from the knowledge sharing and networking at thematic webinars and workshops, share their good practices as peers, and reach out for expert support when looking for solutions to their regional development challenges.
