The European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment and the forthcoming Austrian EU Presidency organise the 5th European Water Conference in Vienna on 20-21 September 2018.
The broader context of the event is set bu a new comprehensive assessment of the state of implementation that will be available in 2018. This will include a forthcoming Commission report on the EU Member States' second River Basin Management Plans and first Flood Risk Management Plans, together with the forthcoming State of Water Report 2018 from the European Environment Agency.
Focus of discussions will be on the implementation of EU water legislation. In addition to exchanging experiences and reporting findings of water-related reports, also the ongoing Fitness Check of the Water Framework Directive, its associated Directives and the Floods Directive, and the evaluation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) will be discussed.
Around 400 participants are expected, including representatives from EU countries, stakeholder groups in relevant economic, social and environmental sectors, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and other EU institutions.
