As part of EU Mobility Week and National Bike Week, Cork Environmental Forum are hosting an online event on Tuesday 22nd of September to coincide with Car Free Day.

The event will include a virtual screening of the film ‘MOTHERLOAD’ with a post-film panel discussion and Q&A.

MOTHERLOAD is an award-winning documentary that uses the cargo bike as the vehicle for exploring parenthood in this digital age of climate change. Having cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008, filmmaker Liz Canning felt stifled by the idea of transporting her babies via car when she became a mother. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born.

This inspirational film showcases the joy and dedication of the cargo bike community. It will undoubtedly motivate its viewers to join the movement and become part of the engaged community that are driving us towards achieving a low-carbon economy.

The post-film panel discussion will include input from 4 speakers. These include Liz Canning herself, Director of MOTHERLOAD, as well as Ivan Plazina from Zadar, Croatia (Partner in the INTENSIFY Project), as Zadar are using e-bikes and e-scooters as a mode of transport in the city.

The new 'wE-bike Cork' campaign will also be launched on the night, which aims to promote electric bicycles as an everyday commuting option in Cork city and county.

This event is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, while being part of an engaged and motivated community.
