On 27 and 28 February 2018 the Capital City of Prague hosts an international meeting focused on innovation in the transport sector, low-carbon transport in particular. The meeting comes under the INNOTRANS project, which Prague joined last year, implemented under the Interreg programme.

The aim of the INNOTRANS project is to share experience and innovative ideas in transport. The lead partner is Coventry University Enterprises, from the UK. This university, together with the city, is engaged in developing e.g. an information system for so-called ‘connected cars’ – online to the internet, tuned into the surrounding infrastructure at key roads into the city. The city of Coventry will be presenting their innovative solution in sustainable transport at this international workshop; specifically, their smart parking system and their project linking autonomous driverless vehicles, being trialled since last year. The Capital City of Prague will present knowhow in operating electric buses.

I see the exchange of experience on an international scale as very important. Our partners abroad are facing the same questions in low-carbon transport as ourselves. During the international meeting, we will also be showing our partners our own notable progress in transport innovation,” said Deputy Mayor and Councillor for transport, sport and leisure in the Capital City of Prague, Petr Dolínek.

Guests from partner institutions abroad will also visit the Public Passenger Transport Check-in and Information Systems Lab and the Traffic Management and Modelling Lab at the Czech Technical University Transport Faculty. These Laboratories are leading-edge Czech research facilities for the simulation and verification of selected processes, without risk of impinging on live traffic flows.

The INNOTRANS project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg Europe territorial cooperation framework. The project’s international partners are the United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, and Romania. The project aims to establish an action plan with specific projects to be implemented in each region. The project is scheduled over five years, with a completion date of 31 December 2021.
