About this good practice
The Vinho Verde Centre for Interpretation and Promotion (CIPVV) has joint management by Municipality of Ponte de Lima and the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region. It is an important sight of the 'ITER VITIS' Cultural Route (CR) of the Council of Europe (CoE) for wine tourism.
Its mission is to promote the research of the wine heritage in a dynamic way, thus promoting the Vinho Verde associated with its territory environmental factors that affect a crop's epigenetic qualities - as a product of excellence.
Objectives
- Initiate several research projects within the history of the Vinho Verde region.
- Engage producers/winemakers and other economic agents in the promotion of Vinho Verde as a unique product in the world and one of great quality.
- Reach the Portuguese and foreign public by propagating the excellence of the product.
- Promote knowledge of the region and Vinho Verde in the media.
Services
The CIPVV (Centro de Interpretação e Promoção do Vinho Verde, ie. Vinho Verde Centre for Interpretation and Promotion consists of services related to the management of collections, historical research and the marketing as well as promotion.
The visitors will have access to the following:
Reception and Welcome by technicians;
A Permanent Exhibition where you can discover the region of the Vinho Verde;
Temporary Exhibitions;
An auditorium with imagery that welcomes you to travel through time;
Wine tasting room to enjoy the renowned Vinho Verde.

Resources needed
The adaptation of the building corresponded to an investment of 1.6 million euros.
Six employees work in the CIPVV, in a shift system, in order to ensure the operation of the service from Monday to Sunday.

The revenue obtained comes from tickets and also from the sale of wines and merchandising.
The CIPVV aims to boost wine tourism in the region by creating synergies among the various stakeholders - catering, hospitality and wine cellars / wine producers in the county.
The CIPVV, whose presidency has been assumed by the Portuguese Association of Wine Municipalities, has been the headquarters of the ITER VITIS Cultural Route of CoE in Portugal since March 2018.

CIPVV and the vineyards are recognized as part of 'ITER VITIS', a CR certified by the CoE, which comprises 18 European countries, and whose main objective is the development of wine tourism through the promotion and appreciation of the cultural and historical heritage as well as the landscape associated with the vineyards and wine of excellence.
The Portuguese Way of Santiago CR, which runs through the whole Municipality of Ponte de Lima, serves as a path for the ITER VITIS Route, as well as the Pilgrims' Hostel that will serve as "Domus of the ITER VITIS Network - The Paths of the Vine".
The experience of CIPVV and its strong connection with ITER VITIS CR of the CoE has shown that are significant benefits in terms of promoting wine tourism as part of cultural heritage of a wine growing region. This has great potential for learning by and transfer to other wine producing regions, in developing wine tourism products & services for growth & jobs, in association with ITER VITIS CR.
